2024 SEASON KICKS OFF AT WEAKLAND’S HORSEPOWER HILL

May 25, 2024         By:  Richard Love

On a beautiful Friday evening in Chest Springs, Pennsylvania the 2024 edition of USA-EAST pulling showcased some of the top running pulling tractors and trucks in the eastern United States.  The event was co-sanctioned by Pull Off Productions a new organization from eastern Pennsylvania that is affiliated with USA-EAST Sled Pulling.  The large crowd covered the hillside at the awesome ‘Horsepower Hill’ arena on the grounds of Weakland Wreckers in southern Cambria County.

The first class on the track to hook to the all-new Decision Maker Grey weight sled was the Triple Crown Diesel Trucks sponsored by Cotton Diesel.  Cody Hazelton from nearby Irvona, PA took the top spot with his 2007 Ford F-350 Powerstroke named “Financial Nightmare”.  Second went to the strong running 2001 Dodge (Cummins power) of Robert Pangallo from and third on this night was Jacob Carfley and his Duramax powered 2005 Chevrolet 3500HD.

The full-blown Mini Rod Tractors made their first ever appearance at Weaklands in the first of two days of awesome high-powered action.  This class is sponsored by CM Pulling Tires in 2024.  A great field of eight tractors were on hand for the season opening pull for the class.  Lyndsey Campbell from Washington, Pennsylvania grabbed the win with her “Short Fused” hot rod.  Second went to “Go For Broke” with Travis Seylar from Chambersburg on a tractor that would have seemed to be underpowered with only a small block engine with a blower.  Third in the class was Robie O’Donnell, Jr. with “SuperBeast”.

Number three on the Friday evening program was the very interesting class for the Kecks Machine sponsored Pro Street 2.6 Diesel 4×4 Trucks running for both USA-EAST points and for the new Pull Off Productions points.  The perennial champion Brendan DeFrank from Richmond, Ohio picked up just where he left off a year ago with another huge win with his “DeFrank Auto Body” Chevrolet.  The runner-up in the stellar field of thirteen trucks was the “Rowdy Ram” and Chris Baer from Jackson Center with his Zeigler Diesel Performace  prepared and newly painted machine.  Baer is also a former USA-EAST point champion.  Third place went to Brendan Finck  with his 2010 Cummins powered Dodge named “No Mercy”.

Light Pro and Limited Pro Stock tractors sponsored by Chaos Fabrication were next on the program and they did not disappoint highlighting a super class of thirteen of the smoker machines.  Deven Riggin from Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania, the reigning USA-EAST champion showed that he is ready for the 2024 season with a powerful win on his John Deere 4620 named “The Bandit”.  Second in the class was Chris Komarony a newcomer from Cambridge, New York who surprised many with a great run on his un-named but beautifully prepared International 1206.  The host for the Weakland’s pulls, Mike Weakland, pushed his “Just Hookin’ Up” John Deere 5010 into the third place on this fine night of pulling.
